Starting a Dog Walking Business
If you love animals, then you might be seeking a business that allows you to work with them. Maybe you're tired of slaving away at a job you hate, and want to earn a living doing something you enjoy. One option for you would be starting a dog walking business. Walking dogs for a living can be a fun way to earn a living!
Many people hire a dog walker because although they love their dogs, they simply don't have time to walk them. They want to make sure their furry friends get the exercise they need, so they outsource the task to a professional dog walker.
One great thing about a dog walking business is that you need little to no equipment. Most all of the time, the dog owners will provide the leashes on which their dogs will be walked. All you need to do is get the word out about your business and walk the dogs! How much more simple could a business be?
Good ways to advertise a dog walking business include the Yellow Pages, newspaper, and strategically placed flyers. You can leave your flyers and business cards at bulletin boards such as those found at supermarkets and laundromats, pet stores, and vet offices.
When it comes to dog walking, you'll need to have a flexible schedule. It is possible to walk more than one dog at one time, however, you'll need to determine if this is a good idea based on each dog's temperament. Some dogs get along great with other dogs, some don't. The last thing you want is a fight between your clients' dogs! If you have dogs that seem to be less social, simply schedule a time to walk them on their own.
How much you charge for your services will depend on several factors. How long are the walks? What area of the country do you live in? A dog walker in a big city will certainly charge more than one in a small town. You can charge per walk, or per hour. Do some research in your local area and find out what competing businesses are charging. This can help you come up with a reasonable rate for your services.
Starting a dog walking business can be a rewarding, fulfilling venture. If you love dogs and enjoy spending time outdoors, this very well could be the business of your dreams!
